Walk in Moses' footsteps 🔥📜

During my first visit to Dahab in February 2023, visiting the world-famous St. Catherine’s Monastery and climbing the holy Mount Moses at sunrise were at the top of my list. After a two-hour (mini)bus ride from Dahab, we set off upwards at 2:30 a.m., wrapped up warmly for the winter temperatures.

My companion was a young man named Sam from Singapore who worked for a well-known German sporting goods company. However, Sam arrived at the starting point dressed a bit too summery and had to be wrapped up warm first. This turned out asw absolutely necessary, as it was -2°C at altitude that morning and a icy wind was blowing. Furthermore, the last part of the trail was partially icy and very slippery.

The climb to the summit was therefore a bit more strenuous than in warmer seasons, which made the reward of the majestic view at sunrise all the more beautiful. I also felt the special spiritual atmosphere of this place, which is sacred not only to Christians. I don’t want to say there was something there, but somehow there was.

The descent in daylight was much easier, and we could now fully enjoy the magnificent desert mountain scenery. Before returning to Dahab around midday, we visited the monastery and learned more about the Greek Orthodox church. I also caught a glimpse of the famous ‘burning bush’, where God is said to have revealed himself to Moses. You can learn more about this religious site on Mount Sinai here.

Rehab is happy to organize this tour at a fair price, optionally with an overnight stay at the monastery. If you are interested, please contact me using the contact form.
